Running on a treadmill can be rather boring at times, such
as running at the same pace for what seems to be endless miles at a time. When your workouts are dull, you’re at risk
of losing motivation to stick with your training. I enjoy tackling treadmill
workouts that vary in speeds to hold my interest and give me a great workout at
the same time.
Treadmills are perfect for running interval workouts as you can easily switch your pace and time your intervals perfectly. Jogging at a steady pace is a great way to get a cardio workout; however, switching up your treadmill workouts to include intervals can be more effective. Interval workouts are meant to be intense; raising and decreasing your heart rate through the combination of fast and slow segments ultimately burning calories faster (and who doesn’t want to do that). This extra work not only helps you burn the calories, it also helps increase your aerobic capacity and speed.
I found this workout to be challenging, so if you’re not
comfortable with the paces, please change them to fit your current fitness
level.
